Last week I provided you with the list of gay porn movies and porn stars nominated for the Grabby Awards that is coming up the end of May. In most cases, the nominees are pretty much the same as the GayVN Awards, and the winners are usually about the same, too. I've served as a judge at the GayVN's for many years and helped make up the list of nominees a couple times, too. With so many gay porn movies released every year and so many categories, it's a pretty tough job, but at the same time, anyone that works in the industry knows pretty much which movies have a "buzz" about them. But did you know, YOU can vote in a special category called the "People's Choice Award"? For the second year in a row, Maleflixxx.tv has sponsored the Grabby's and created a way for the most rabid fans to have their own input into the voting process. Just click the banner above to rent the movies online, watch them, then cast your vote. It all sounds good until you look at the list of nominees. Only two of the movies nominated for People's Choice were from 2005! Five movies were from 2004, two movies were from 2003, and one was from 2002! How did they come up with this list? The press release says: "...selected through viewer response to the title, the overall production quality and the strength of each movie's erotic content..." Blah, blah, blah. Did Karl Rove write that??? -Without regard to date of production, does that mean these 10 movies are the greatest of all time? I don't think any one of them made any kind of particular splash when they were released, and I certainly don't recall any of them winning any major awards either from the Grabby's or the GayVN's. (The only exception to that would be Hard As Wood, simply because it was the debut of Francois Sagat. That's why I am making it MY choice. Mmmmm, Francois....) -Did Maleflixxx.tv pick certain titles just to satisfy the studios? Probably not, because two of the studios aren't even in business anymore! Even if you were to pick one from Falcon, one from Hothouse, one from Raging Stallion, I think even the studios themselves would suggest other titles. -Doesn't Maleflixxx.tv already KNOW what the viewers like? Customers of Maleflixxx.tv vote with their wallet every day of the year. They know minute by minute which movies sell and which don't. One of the long standing features of the site is not one, but two Top 10 Lists - Most Watched and Highest Rated. Just like your local Blockbuster store, the busiest section is always "New Releases", so Top 10 lists always reflect what was just added. In summary, each of the 10 movies nominated for People's Choice Award have their merits, especially during the period when they were current. Is it a comprehensive list of the absolute best movies culled from the entire Maleflixxx.tv network? Hardly. The Maleflixxx.tv network has an AMAZING collection of the hottest movies, many of which are somehow being ignored. I questioned last year's selection for the same reasons, too. My only guess is they needed to meet a deadline and someone just copied-and-pasted their personal favorites and moved the project down the production line.
