I had a ball at the GAYVN Awards again this year! It was my fifth time serving as judge of the so-called "gay porn Oscars" and not only was it sexy, fun, and crazy as always, this just happened to be another one of those years where we had a bit of drama! Hurray for the drama - it's keeps things interesting! And besides, it was just minor gossip - no one died - so here's how the fun played out. There were a lot of great movies this year, indicating some great leaps in technical acheivement, scriptwriting, and dare I say it... actual ACTING talent. Yes, we've come of age. Anyway, the race for Best Picture was very heated and the "drama" part of the evening occurred when the evening's biggest award went to a TIE! Michael Lucas's "Dangerous Liasions" tied with Chi Chi LaRue's "Wrong Side of the Tracks". The room gasped as the names were read because Lucas had recently been in a battle of insults between he and Chi Chi. (Nothing more than innocent teasing, really, but these are sensitive "artists".) The kicker came when Michael Lucas, in his acceptance speech, thanked those who voted for him and, "... whoever didn't vote for me, fuck you." Most people in the industry try to be civil with each other in public, it's part of that Hollywood kiss-kiss-stab-you-in-the-back PR machine. Michael got booed for not playing by the rules and J.D. Slader started throwing ice cubes at him. Raging Stallion's Chris Ward tried to shoosh J.D. Slader for throwing ice, but when I talked to J.D. later, it was his crowning moment of the evening. (Mark Adams reports that Raging Stallion sent an note of apology on Monday.) You could tell Chi Chi was not amused, and the pictures say it all! Look at that smirk on her face. It's bad enough that Michael Lucas went on the Derek and Romaine show a few weeks ago joking that Chi Chi likes to stick gerbils up her ass - and now THIS! I think this means war, but again, according to Mark Adams, the two have since made up. Michael, dear, I know you were joking and just trying to stir up the shit. I got the joke, but save it for kidding around with your buddies at home. The other news that no one else seemed to report is that Pete Ross, nominated for Best Threesome and Performer of the Year, made a very bold statement this year.
