Joe Pessa Photo Portfolio 2006

Photos By Joe Pessa
Joe Pessa is a local photographer that shoots candid shots at gay events around town, just like I do, and we have the same taste in men. Except Joe goes to WAY more events than I do! Plus, he's less shy about walking up to the hottest guys in town and asking for their photo.
Sometimes I'm fearless about that, but other times, I kinda need to force myself to be brave. I know it's silly to have that fear of talking to hot guys, but it happens nonetheless. Only a few assholes have ever refused to be photographed out in public, so it shouldn't be an issue. I guess that part of the reason I started to carry a camera with me to street fairs and such was to give myself a distraction from my insecurities about being in such sexually charged environments. (Don't get me wrong, I LIKE sexually charged envirnments, but it's awkward to be there and be totally ignored.) Instead a being a nerd that blends into the woodwork and becomes invisible, having a camera allowed me an excuse to mingle - but only when I'm brave enough. With a big, professional-looking camera, I can (usually) walk up to a beautiful man, ask to take his picture, hand him a flyer so he can see it on the website, and hopefully strike up a conversation. Photography is not just a creative outlet for me, it's also part of my business model and (ugh!) therapy toward personal growth.
How did I get on to this rant? I should just hire Joe to work for me - and then hire either a shrink or a hooker!
