The Definitive Muscle Bear Cub

I'll "Trade" You For Guys Under 25 With Beards
My friend Norb is a constant observer and critic of bleeding edge styles and trends. (He does, however, often need my help in choosing shirts...) Recently, he clued me into a hot underground trend of guys under 25 with beards. Hmm. The point was made during one of those stoner stream-of-consciousness conversations on a completely different topic, but somehow that phrase stuck with me. I suddenly started noticing an unusual number of really cute scruffy young guys with facial hair out on the streets. Where did this come from? Are they bear cubs in training? (Oh, I hope so! "Ugly Betty" Gay Porn Satire - Lucas' "The Intern"
A few months ago I started writing a gay porn script based on "Ugly Betty" that I was going to pitch to Falcon and call it "Ugly Buddy". When you're juggling 10 plates of things you HAVE to do, there's not much time left over to spend on speculative ideas. (I didn't want to spend a lot of time writing something that could easily get nixed.)
Fast forward to a few weeks ago and the press releases from Lucas Entertainment talked about their plans to write a similar script, but combining "Ugly Betty" with "Devil Wears Prada". Both are surefire gay camp classics with similar themes, so one or the other was a natural to end up with a gay porn version. Low and behold, Lucas exclusive Ben Andrews himself wrote the script, pitched it, named it "The Intern", and the studio moved ahead with it. And here I am with two pages of scribbles, a head full of plot twists, and an idea that is now worthless.
It's just one more reminder to myself that I need to create my own movies, develop my own ideas and quit spending so much time promoting other people's movies and websites.
But back to "The Intern", as a GayVN judge and porn movie reviewer, my only joy in that role is when I get to review porn comedies. I like how the PR for the movie makes the distinction that it is an "intentional" comedy. Lord knows there is so much crap put out in gay porn, I get plenty of UN-intentional laughs!
Lucas' PR guy sent this picture out and said this about his boss, the guy everyone loves to hate, "Guys, I couldn't resist.... After one last 'dream sequence' dialogue scene yesterday between Ben Andrews and Michael Lucas that went out with a cream pie-filled bang, filming on The Intern is officially a wrap. Everyone in the office stopped what they were doing to watch that scene. I think some of us enjoyed it a lot more than we should have..."

Kiki and Herb's Fake Funeral
Yesterday I attended a publicity stunt for Kiki and Herb's upcoming shows at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco (ACT-SF.org).
The invitation was billed as "Kiki and Herb's Funeral" and it was held at a real, old school funeral home at Sutter and Polk. Bruce Vilanch was there to deliver the eulogy in the chapel with his rapid fire pun-rific style, but was interrupted by Kiki and Herb walking in from the back with a megaphone. I wish I could remember some of the jokes, but it all came at me like a steamroller. I was just happy to enjoy it and snap these exclusive photos.
They're alive! They're alive! Oh, happy day!
They sang a couple songs and gave us a taste of what to expect at their big show at a legitimate thee-ah-tuh. Fortunately, Kiki (Justin Bond) is completely comfortable performing his "act" at the corner of Sutter and Polk after have spent many years as a resident of this fair city before making it big in New York.
I've known Justin Bond since he was just a club kid here in San Francisco. For while, he had a weekly column in the Bay Area Reporter, which can be regarded as one of the most memorable series of columns ever run in that paper.
I also have some video footage stashed away somewhere of Kiki and Justin's very earliest days. I have footage of him competing in the Miss Uranus Pageant. When I had my TV show, I hired him (as in PAID him) to perform two numbers while Kiki was still a solo act. And I have some really poor quality footage of Kiki and Herb's first long-running cabaret show at a restaraunt called Eichelbergers. I better dig through my tapes, get them up on YouTube, and exploit their celebrity - and fast!

Folsom Street Fair Poster 2007
While all the leather queens are on their way to Chicago for IML (International Mr. Leather) this weekend, nobody noticed that the poster for Folsom Street Fair has been leaked.
A bit challenging, perhaps?
As usual, I will be publishing my photos of Folsom Street Fair for VIP members of Lavender Lounge, as I have for the past several years. Amahl Returns And My Porn Debut

Lost Photo Set Re-Surfaces - "Malik The 10 Incher"
Fans of the Lavender Lounge Blog and VIP Room will recall the big changes we made to this site in the fall. In addition to adding new content to the membership section nearly every day, I have also been in the process of re-introducing content from this site's last incarnation. One of my best models to date was a guy I shot last spring named Malik. He's a straight, black bodybuilder that had just moved to town after getting out of the military. A friend named Dennis (soon to be a Sister himself) downloaded them, then manipulated them in Photoshop to give them an artsy effect. Retardo forwarded them to me, and I think the effect is quite lovely.

Sticky Pages By Steve MacIsaac
I had the privilege to run in to Steve MacIsaac, a Canadian cartoonist and artist at The Eagle last weekend. Steve was in town for the Alternative Press Expo, a forum for zines, comics and art outside the mainstream spectrum. His style reminds me of artists as diverse as Daniel Clowes, Alan Moore and Tom of Finland but there's also a very personal element that goes beyond comparison.
I picked up a copy of "Sticky" at the convention released by German publishing patron of all things gay, Bruno Gmünder. It's a combined effort of MacIsaac and writer Dale Lazarov with a wordless narrative that tells of everyday, and not so everyday, sexual situations. And commendably, the characters actually uses condoms for buttfucking. "Sticky" is definitely a one-handed read that'll make you want to pick up a copy of right now.
Steve was at the convention with a group called "Prism Comics", a nonprofit organization that supports LGBT comics. Have a look at their website, and unless you're a closeted breeder, there's most likely something to your liking.

Donnie Davies Don't Deserve Da Dish
The Donnie Davies hoax had the blogosphere on fire the beginning of this year. This self-proclaimed "Anabaptist youth pastor" and "ex-gay" found himself censored by both Google Video and YouTube. They apparently couldn't figure out if his song "The Bible Says" (featuring the lyrics "God hates a fag, if you're a fag he hates you too") was meant seriously or not. Well, since the link is still arriving in my mail every other day and since it's still not confirmed who the real Donnie Davies is, I'm gonna give my two cents to the debate.
First of all: the two main suspects, Bobby Conn and the Glass Gypsies drummer Colby Stark, and comedian Joey Oglesby, still deny all participation. Oglesby is still widely believed to be the culprit behind the Donnie Davies phenomenon although he claims to have nothing to do with it. The theory of a viral marketing campaign for a C.H.O.P.S. (Changing Homosxuals in to Ordinary People in Donniespeak) movie doesn't seem to add up since the www.chopsmovie.com website point to a documentary on jazz music. So the mystery is still unsolved.
What amazes me is that so many gay people are so upset by this prankster who's pointing the finger at all the bizarro christians out there with serious agendas. 
The Bruce Hornby-esque song is mildly amusing, and the guy performed with Norwegian homosexualist straight punks, Turbonegro, and gay singer Pete Shelley's legendary Buzzcocks at SXSW recently. Apparently Donnie didn't even sing for himself.
It's not like jesusfreaks need someone parodying their bizarre antics. The ever-disturbing Rev. Fred Phelps has a music video posted on one of his sites with his whole inbred choir performing a dereanged version of "We are the World" called "God Hates The World" that will have you laughing way beyond "The Bible Says".
And of course, there is the classic children's song "Lil' Markie – Diary of an unborn child", an Mp3 that's been circling the web for years. It is what it sounds like: a diary of a fetus, meant to teach children that abortion is a sin. The problem is that the kid is so annoying that pregnant women will start reaching for the nearest wire hanger before the song is over.
You can't make shit like that up. And spoofs like Donnie Davies don't even come close to the shear monstrosity of Westboro Baptist Church and Lil' Markie.

Stonewall And Riot Is A Riot
And while we're on the subject of gay adult visual art, MaleFlixxx.tv just published the latest episode of Joe Phillips's animated sci-fi porno "Stonewall and Riot". The movie that was nominated for a 2007 GayVN Award, which Phillips won in 2002 for his first feature "The House of Morecock". The new video features the adventures of two gay superheroes in the fictious Eros City. Eros City is populated by meanies "The Masters of Doom", a group of villains including Analconda, who can control anal beads with ESP and Professor Prohylactic, a guy contructed entirely out of latex.
Needless to say "Stonewall and Riot" is an anime with its tongue planted firmly in its cheek. Never the less, its 3D animations are quite stunning and it's pretty much above comparison to anything else released in the gay adult animation before or after.

New Falcon Model: Ryan Wade

COLT Exclusive Mitch Branson
I recently spotted a dreamboat on RandyBlue.com that I recognized as a local boy from the gym. When I wrote to Randy to congratulate him on his discovery, he told me to watch for a major announcement. Turns out the guy from Randy's Blue's "Coach" scene has signed as a COLT model and has taken the name Mitch Branson (see above). "Grindhouse" - Pure Cinematic Joy
What's wrong with America? Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino created one of the most entertaining cinematic experiences in years, and it bombs. Well, not "bombs" exactly, but the Box Office results for "Grindhouse" has been disappointing. And it's a bloody shame.
The double feature contains zombies, Kurt Russell, a machine gun worn as a prostetic leg, tons of gore and a pretty decent portion of female empowerment. Basically it's all that's missing from commercial cinema today. It's an homage to cult and exploitation classics like "Vanishing Point", "Zombie Flesh-Eaters", "Ilsa – She-wolf of the SS" and "I Spit on your Grave". But aside from referencing 70's movies, it is more an embrace of the whole era when nothing seemed to be impossible on screen. The era that gave us John Waters, "Deep Throat", "Thundercrack" and Italian cannibal movies. In the hands of these cult movie afficionados, this is exploitation movies on steroids. Rodriguez's contribution "Planet Terror" is the most entertaining zombie splatter since the remake of "Dawn of the Dead" and Tarantino's "Death Proof" is one of the craziest car chase movies since..well, since ever.
And now they're talking about splitting it in two for the European release, to see if it scores better commercially. I say we all do our civic duty and go and see "Grindhouse" at least twice so that the distributors realize that this is a gem that deserves to remain untouched. And if you haven't seen the movies that influenced "Grindhouse" here are a few titles to start with.
