Lazy Bear Weekend 2007 Photos
I got back from Lazy Bear Weekend last night, the first "vacation" I had all year. But, as usual, my vacations are actually "working vacations". Lazy Bear is too important an event for me to miss promotional opportunities and photo ops, but I had to be somewhat discreet about promotions.
I contacted the Lazy Bear promoter in plenty of time to buy advertising, or sponsor an event or something, but they never got back to me with prices, deadlines or any kind of options. I guess my money is not good enough for them... When I did show up and distribute some lighters with the MuscleBearCub.com logo, the promoter was pissed off at me because he promised exclusivity to his paid sponsors, and doesn't like interlopers stealing their thunder. That's fine, I wasn't in the mood for heavy-duty promotions anyway, and I certainly didn't want to get into a tussle over it either. It's my vacation.
Once again we paid a fortune to camp in the backyard of the Willows resort in Guerneville and squeezed five bears into one tent. With about 1,000 or 1,200 burly, hairy men with big appetites drinking a lot of alcohol, by the second day, the bathrooms reached a new level of disgusting. We came up with a new slogan for them: "Inn At The Willows - Don't Look Down". It's not their fault, it's a once a year event in a very sleepy town that does not want to support these kind of events, so we're lucky we got the chance to run amok on the Russian River. With the threat of floods every year, the resorts barely recuperate from one flood before another flood wipes them out. It's hard to even think about capital improvements under those conditions. But when you get a good group of friends packed together like sardines, it can really be fun for a few days.
