"Attention Whore" Ignites Burning Man Early

Police have arrested a "suspect", (duh, he DID it...) at Black Rock City for allegedly climbing up into the wooden Burning Man structure and setting it on fire in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, well before the scheduled "burn" on Saturday night. According to SFGate.com, Paul Addis, 35, of San Francisco is described by festival organizers as an "attention whole" and the likely perpetrator.

I'm pretty sure it's the same Paul Addis I've known for years as "Cyber Satan", a fast-talking leather-clad know-it-all anarchist attorney who frequently carries firearms and lethal hunting knives. Knowing him, it's exactly the type of stunt he would pull - whether it ruins the fun of seeing the proper spectacle of Burning Man for 40,000 people or not.

I last saw Paul Addis at my New Year's Eve party, where the aggressively heterosexual and swaggeringly macho prankster showed up in slut drag (see photos). Um, that outfit was maybe little too believable for straight guy, perhaps...? To bring in the New Year, he also pulled out a ton of very big fireworks that night, too. That night he was promoting an upcoming one-man show where he was portraying his idol, drug-fueled gonzo writer Hunter S. Thomson.

Always the scene-stealer, I also recall Cyber Satan getting one of my Folsom Fair after-parties started by fucking some girl right in front of us all. Need attention? And how badly does a straight guy need attention if he shows up at a gay street fair like Dore Alley and poses in ass-less chaps, as he did in this photo from 2003?

Yeah, that's him. Attention whore indeed. Dr. Gonzo would have been proud.
