Hairrison Street Fair 2007 - Casting Couch

Hairrison Street Fair bear weekThe culmination of Labor Day Weekend, now dubbed "Bear Week" in San Francisco, was the Hairrison Street Fair. Amid the traffic mess created by the Bay Bridge closure and the mass exodus to the playa for Burning Man, the hearty souls who stayed in town were treated to an entire week of fun activities. Now that Burning Man has officially "jumped the shark", here's hoping the gay boys in the know will opt for supporting a less ambitious way to spend Labor Day from here on.

I missed the Hot Cookie party and the go-go dancing bears earlier in the week, but convinced a couple Sisters to head South Of Market on Friday. Though we arrived too late to partake of the deep-fried goodness of the Krispy Kreme party at the Lone Star, we saw the destruction left in its wake. We were told, though, that cases of donuts arrived at the bar by a conga line of bears, only to have every last crumb devoured instantly. We did arrive in time to ride the Mexican party bus that made the circuit of participating bars, and the Sisters graciously gave Communion with Jagermeister, Tequila and a delicious honey liqueur.

Hairrison Street Fair bear weekFriday was so much fun that Saturday was a challenge to be sociable. We dragged ourselves to the Bears Gone Wild party just long enough to make an appearance, but retreated to couch-ville to snooze through a night of TV in anticipation of Sunday's street fair. And it was a good thing we rested up!

Once again, I put together my "casting couch" theme for a booth to promote MuscleBearCub.com. Last year the producers of the event told us we had the "best booth", so this year they were very accommodating. First of all, we lucked out by having the only space that had shade the entire day, plus we were able to expand to double size when the neighboring booth operators didn't show up!

I usually walk around street fairs to take candid photos of the crowds, but this time it was nice to have a comfortable little headquarters. There were so many cute guys running around, and not all of them were necessarily what you'd think of as "bears". Let's make this clear - not all bears have eating disorders! There are a lot of really hot, hairy bears with (somewhat of) a six-pack! Well, maybe not a six-pack per se, but beefy and weight appropriate to height. And even the guys considered skinny can fit in as a bear cub just by growing some facial hair. That's why I created Muscle Bear Cub - to promote "the bear lifestyle" to guys who keep in shape! (Read my essay printed in Euro Bear Magazine entitled, "Evolution of the Muscle Bear Cub as Gay Erotic Icon")

It was really easy to promote MuscleBearCub.com at this event. I gave away bear cookies, flyers and free lighters with the Muscle Bear Cub logo as a way to hook them, then invited the cutest bear cubs to step in the booth to get their picture taken on the "casting couch". If anyone balked at getting their picture taken with, "But I'm not a bear cub and I don't have muscles...", I just replied that Muscle Bear Cub is a dating site where you go to find bears, cubs and guys with muscle. "Oh! Well, sign me up!"
