My Christmas Tree 2007

Last night I had a little tree-trimming party to decorate my Christmas tree. I made dinner for 10, and could easily have invited 20, but it's not easy to serve that many people and still be able to spend quality time with each.
I am doing just minimal decorations for Christmas this year - just a wreath in the front hall and the tree. Period. I've been having issues with consumerism and wasteful spending, so I see no point in covering every inch of the house with cheap plastic crap. My sister is the type that buries herself in Christmas decorations every year, even though she rarely gets anyone to come over to see it. If you try too hard to impress people with window dressing rather than yourself, you end up with friends who only like you for the decorations you put out, or the gifts you give or the parties you throw.
The message is, if you are the type to entertain guests at Christmas, don't get caught up in the hype of throwing the "perfect" Martha Stewart event. Be sure to spend quality time with your guests.
But I do love my vintage aluminum Christmas tree! My family got one almost exactly like it in 1960, and that was the tree I remember most through my youth. I wanted one for many years, and finally ordered one from Ebay about four years ago. I've decided to forgo the "eclectic" style of mis-matched ornaments, and stick with vintage red and silver glass bulbs only. Unless this set of bulbs gets lost or broken, I won't replace them or add to them. This non-petroleum based tree has been lovingly recycled over 50 times and only uses one light bulb. How's that for a "green" Christmas?
If you'd like to give an environmentally friendly gift this year, why not a membership to Lavender Lounge? No shopping, no wrapping, no petroleum-based products. And it's the gift that keeps on giving!
