Sirius OutQ's Derek and Romaine To Host GayVN Awards

It was just announced that Derek and Romaine, the hosts of Sirius satellite radio's gay porn-riffic afternoon radio show will be hosting the GayVN Awards February 16th in San Francisco. Derek Hartley and Romaine Patterson have hosted Sirius OutQ's top rated national radio show for five years. Despite the 7 million subscribers of Howard Stern's home-base at Sirius radio, the general gay public doesn't really know Derek and Romaine. Let me clue you in - the bitches are fierce!

I bought a Sirius radio just after Howard Stern announced he was moving his show, but Derek and Romaine are actually my favorite part of Sirius. Where else can millions of listeners hear gay porn stars interviewed uncensored on a daily basis?

Yes, I do wish that Kathy Griffin was hosting the GayVN Awards again this year, but I have a feeling she asked for too much money or something. She booked a competing show the same night across town at the Castro Theater, but suspiciously scheduled it for 11pm, probably in hopes that GayVN would meet her price and she could do both shows. Just my suspicions, though.

According to Derek Hartley's blog, they got the GayVN gig after John Rutherford from COLT Studio and Chi Chi LaRue made the recommendation to GayVN. I think it's a good fit, they really know porn, they are not financially tied into any single studio, Derek is a really quick wit and Romaine has a filthy mouth. Perfect.

Oh yeah, and that over-the-hill hillbilly cross-dresser Lady Bunny is hosting, too. So who's more famous - nationally syndicated radio hosts or a drag queen who's big claim to fame is the long-dead Wigstock?

There's a big controversy over nasty comments posted to The Sword that called them "houseplants".

Boylesque - Bringing Old School Burlesque Back

Back in the summer I met a couple of super-cute boys at a birthday party, and while I was schmoozing them, I found out they were part of an all gay dance troupe called Boylesque.

I checked their website, SFBoylesque.com, and they are a grass-roots organization that offers a variety of classes and is available for a couple of different types of performances. I somehow got an email announcing a fundraiser to help send Boylesque to a Burlesque competition in Las Vegas, so I thought this might be a good opportunity to see them in action. They will be the only all male group competing, so it should raise some eyebrows!

Elliott is the goldilocks with the hairy chest and eight pack abs, and I have a little crush on him, for what it's worth. (Gotta tread lightly in these situations. Toad Hall Revisited - Prepping for Harvey Milk Movie

The Castro is all abuzz with excitement over Gus Van Sant's film crew in town for the new movie about Harvey Milk. Crews have been feverishly painting the marquee on the Castro theater to restore it to the way it looked in the mid-70's. Shots of vintage cars parked on Castro have surfaced.

The casting call for extras drew massive crowds. You had to be under 30 with somewhat of a 1970's look - either "Castro Clone", Village People, or hippy. It's interesting to note how many young guys that consider themselves contemporary "faeries" are getting cast for this movie without changing a thing!

The sign from "Toad Hall" you see me pointing at is right now hanging in front of 440 Castro, but Toad Hall was actually located at 482 Castro, now part of the recently expanded Walgreens store, which took it over in the late 90's, I believe. I will remember 482 Castro as the only dance club in the Castro in the 1980's and well into the 1990's by the name "The Phoenix", but it may have changed names near the end. There have been so many changes in the Castro over the years, it's impossible to keep up. I seem to recall, though, it's last incarnation as a bar ended with a fire, which seemed to happen frequently at that location according to the account below. Suspicious?

440 Castro, which was known as "Daddy's" for a long time, was called "Bear Hollow" when I moved here in 1981. It later became "The Bear" for a number of years, followed by a very long period of renovation.

It was one of the most popular bars on Castro Street, definitely a major 1970's social institution and an exciting part of our neighborhood story. In fact, it may have had a significant influence on the influx of gays to the Castro. The bar was a trendsetter. The management was creative and innovative. TOAD HALL was the first dance bar in the Castro and was one of the first bars anywhere to use taped music instead of a jukebox, not just taped music but well-planned programs of songs that flowed into each other seamlessly. When the other bars began to catch up, TOAD HALL installed a booth and hired a DJ; another major step in providing the best entertainment for the patrons. At that time, most gay bars were governed by greed. Gays were happy to have ANY place to meet and were at the mercy of slumlords who would accept them. We learned to put up with rundown places in seedy locations, run by people who didn't care about us and were unwilling to make repairs and improvements. TOAD HALL welcomed us with a warm friendly smile into a clean, well-decorated establishment. So it is not unrealistic to think that gays would flock to the Castro from all over the City (and beyond) to visit TOAD HALL, and in doing so would become charmed by the beauty of the neighborhood.

Hottest New Sex Club in San Francisco Is...

Let's start with a bad joke.

Did you hear about the hot new sex club in San Francisco? It's called STAPH MEETING.

Last week I got really paranoid about this new MRSA staph infection going around San Francisco. Several of my friends caught it including one that has been hospitalized and required surgery.

I hang out with a group of people that see each other almost every day but act like it's been twenty years since you last saw them. Kisses on both cheeks, "Daaaarling, how aaaaare you?' Kiss kiss on both cheeks. Repeat upon exit like you're being sent off to war. Two hours later at the next bar, the cycle starts over.

That's a lot of opportunities to pass infections and I was petrified. The news media jumped on this "new gay plague" like it was some sort of new gay plague. The self-righteous Constipated Wackos of America used this opportunity to once again try to round us up into concentration camps.

I also go to the Gay Gold's Gym where everyone wears tank tops and gym shorts in the dead of winter. Lots of skin contact on benches and machines. One day I felt like using machines, but chose cardio instead because I wouldn't have to touch anything. Two days ago, as a precaution, I decided to wear long sweat pants and weightlifting gloves for extra protection. I was tempted to wear rubber gloves, too.

For a long time I've been thinking about adding rubber gloves to my gym gear just to prevent colds and flu. I predict that the new fashion accessory at gay gyms with be disposable rubber gloves. You heard it here first.

I felt better when I saw the Director of San Francisco Public Health, Dr. Mitch Katz, working out at Gay Gold's Gym with the same machines and benches as the rest of us bacteria bags - in a tank top and gym shorts. No rubber gloves, gas mask or haz-mat suit.

Today, the media is finally attempting to soften the fear-mongering. From ABC News:

"...(Dr. Daniel) Pallin, (from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston) whose study will appear in the upcoming issue of the journal Annals of Emergency Medicine, says that despite the confirmation that a MRSA epidemic is in full swing, the disease does not pose the level of disaster that the use of the term might suggest.

'This suggests to us that this actually is an epidemic, though it is an epidemic of a minor disease, and we don't want to create hysteria," he says. "I would say that people should be concerned but maybe not afraid or worried. But a certain level of concern is appropriate.'

Pallin adds that it is also important for people to realize that MRSA can be acquired in the gym and around the home -- not just in hospitals. And he notes that even if a person suspects that he or she is infected with MRSA, such an infection is far from a death sentence.

'The majority of these conditions are skin abscesses or other conditions that are unlikely to be fatal," Pallin says. "These are really rare cases, and they make it into the news because it's alarming and it makes good press.'"

Movie Trailer - Muscle Bear Cub: Cubs Connect

I created a little trailer (above) for the movie that I have been working on. It's going to be called "Muscle Bear Cub: Cubs Connect Volume 1". The movie itself is going to be a blatant promotional tool to promote my dating site, MuscleBearCub.com.

One of the features of MuscleBearCub.com is section for guys to post a free personal ad to hook up with other bears and cubs. Once you've created your free online profile, you can submit one main picture for your profile, plus you can create a photo gallery of 10 more pictures.

I launched MuscleBearCub.com back in the summer and it's currently got about 500 members, and many of them are real hotties! Unfortunately, there are lot of members who are either too shy or too technically challenged to add a photo. Guys, I want to see what you look like, and so do the other members! How do you expect to hook up if you don't show your wares!

Sexy Six Pack Bellies in VIP Room

Over the weekend I put together a photo gallery of sexy six pack bellies for the Belly Worship section of the Lavender Lounge VIP Room. And, man, are they smokin' hot! I not going to tell you where I found them, but I suspect most of them are straight guys. I find it odd, though, that straight guys would submit their bodybuilding photos to a site that is mostly frequented by other straight guys.

I guess you've got to be a bit of an egomaniac or exhibitionist (or both) to be a serious bodybuilder. When I say "serious bodybuilder" I'm not referring to "professional bodybuilders" that compete for prizes and get paid for endorsements, or even the amateur competitors who enter contests just to win trophies.

There are a lot of guys that lift weights, take steroids, and eat like athletes just to look better than their buddies. Oh, and maybe impress some chicks, too. They take pictures of themselves flexing their biceps, pumping their pecs, and rippling their abs, then submit them to websites asking other guys to comment on how they look. Does that sound strange to you? What bodybuilding "advice" could they be seeking? Comments pretty much boil down to "build more muscle" and "lose more fat" - period. Otherwise they must be just fishing for compliments. Or to take it one step further, maybe they are looking for other manly, well-build guys to flirt with them. Sounds pretty homoerotic to me!

"Muscle Bear Cub: Solos One" is my first movie from my new line and it is now available for online streaming at two different video on demand sites. I submitted it to five sites altogether, and I am still waiting for the rest to be added.

Just last week the movie was added to GayHotMovies.com where you can watch the entire movie scene by scene. Plus, Lavender Lounge got mentioned in their NEWS section for being added as a new studio. It was a very nice write-up, so take a look. (I'm blushing!)

Anne Rice Says: Clinton / Obama Ticket Unstoppable

Novelist Anne Rice made this little video in support of Hillary Clinton for president. She also proposed an idea I've been thinking about for a long time. If Hillary brought on Obama as her running mate, the ticket would be unstoppable. Think about it. Prior to Clinton / Gore, the role of Vice President was mostly ceremonial. Al Gore was the first Co-President, and some think Dick Cheney is really the puppetmaster of the Bush Administration.

The platforms of Obama and Clinton are not that dissimilar. If they really mean it when they individually say they want to bring the country together, it should be easier for them to join forces than to sway their collective opposition on various issues, right? And in terms of the election, John McCain would have to enlist Jesus himself as a running mate to beat a Clinton / Obama ticket!

The only problem is when a candidate has enough ego to run for president and get close enough to taste it, he usually has TOO much ego to settle for second position. He'd rather gamble for 8 years as president over a potential 16 years - 8 as VP and 8 as heir apparent.

New Videos in Lavender Lounge VIP Room

Somehow, it seems I forgot that I had a ton of videos that have never been added to the VIP Room at Lavender Lounge! Jesus fucking christ, how could I forget? Part of my excuse is that getting videos onto a website is more difficult than it sounds. Besides the editing that you would normally do, I chop them up into five minute segments. Then you gotta jump through a bunch more hoops to select the format you want to show them, decide how you want to compress them, then compress them again, make thumbnails, load to the server, blah blah blah. All that processing power requires a separate computer to do just that, but you still have to sit and wait forever to let it crank away while to try to do something else on the other computer while still checking back to the videos.

Parallels Between Britney Spears and Judy Garland

Britney Spears (or more recently, Fifty One Fifty Spears) is not the first "troubled" celebrity battling alcohol, pills, illegal drugs and mental breakdowns in front of the press. Above is a very telling interview with Judy Garland about celebrity where she talks a lot about "lies" written about herself in the press. It's from 1967, a year before she died, and the interview was by none other than Barbara Walters.

My own analysis of Britney's condition is I suspect she's bipolar and using drugs and alcohol to self medicate because she's not given the proper medication. Bipolar Britney has dramatic mood swings from deep depression to tremendous highs. When she's depressed, she turns to the strongest stimulants she can find to perk her up - from Starbucks coffee to speed. When she's in an up mood, she goes shopping, to niteclubs several nights in a row, or just driving around aimlessly without a care in the world - and without underwear.

Often, the medication prescribed for bipolars leaves them zombie-like. For most average people with generally dull lives, it's a salvation from the madness. For someone in show business, that's not acceptable. The night Britney did the lackluster performance at the VMA's was probably an example of what she is like with proper medication.
