Michael Brandon Prepares for Comeback

To follow-up on the status of one of gay porn's true superstars and a wonderfully sweet guy currently in a bit of trouble, the SF Weekly tracked down Michael Brandon to fill us in on the latest. As I reported October 1, 2008, Brandon found himself returning to some very bad habits involving crystal meth after many years of sobriety.

I ran into him before Thanksgiving while waiting at red light. He looked good and said he was in a program, but that's about all we had time to say.

Queer Cinema - Funeral Parade of Roses at Artists Television Access

For the past year The Revival House has brought you the very best in homo-grown cinema from decades past. It's been fantastic year of cinematic delights and the time has come to close the show.

Screening on Wednesday, December 17th, The Revival House is proud to present "Funeral Parade of Roses" (a.k.a. "Bara no soretsu") by Director Toshio Matsumoto (Japan, 1969; b&w; Japanese w/Eng. subtitles).
Noted as a major influence on Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange", "Funeral Parade of Roses" almost betrays description. I don't think I've ever seen the words "bear cub" appear in a description for a model on a Falcon website, but today's new addition to the Massive website features a cutie named Gabe. Joseph Kerekes Pleads Guilty To Bryan Kocis Murder

WILKES-BARRES, Pa. — Joseph Kerekes has pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Cobra Video producer Bryan Kocis. He was sentenced to the mandatory life in prison without parole. The plea spared Kerekes from facing the death penalty.

In addition to the murder charge, he pleaded guilty to additional charges of criminal conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to tamper with physical evidence, tampering with physical evidence, and theft.

Judge Peter Paul Olszewski Jr. sentenced Kerekes, 34, to the mandatory life sentence plus a combined 56 to 112 months in state prison, and 24 months probation to be served consecutively to the life sentence.

The additional time is considered a formality to be taken into consideration should Kerekes petition for a pardon at a future date.

Co-defendant Harlow Cuadra, 27, is scheduled to go on trial Jan. 5.

According to one media report, Kerekes stated that “Cuadra had murdered Bryan Kocis and set his home ablaze.”

However, upon entering his plea, Kerekes refused to testify against Cuadra. “I absolutely will not testify for the state case against Harlow,” he told the court.

He additionally apologized to the Kocis family. “We will never forgive nor will we forget what Mr. Kerekes has done to this family,” said Michael Kocis, father of the victim.

Kerekes and Cuadra, both escorts, gay adult producers and website entrepreneurs, are accused of stabbing Kocis to death in January 2007 and setting fire to his Dallas Township, Pa. home.

They were arrested in May 2007 and formally charged two months later.

Police arrested the pair after allegedly finding evidence on Kocis’ computer that managed to survive the fire. Emails presented Cuadra as a new model who arranged to meet Kocis the night of his murder, according to court documents.

Investigators say the motive for Kocis’ murder was that he presented a roadblock between Cuadra and Kerekes working with popular gay star Brent Corrigan, who was under exclusive contract at the time.

Members of the defense and prosecution teams have not released statements as they have been enjoined by the judge from speaking to the press.

Lavender Lounge Photos in Euro Bear Magazine

Lavender Lounge and Muscle Bear Cub received a major presence in the latest issue of Euro Bear Magazine #26. Dear Mr. Niederauer:

I am writing to respond to your offensive and demeaning Press Release that was excerpted on SFGate.com, and to give you some real world perspective on the issue of Proposition 8.

You’ve probably noticed that I am addressing this letter to “Mister” Niederauer, rather than by your job title. I am not one of your co-workers nor am I one of your customers. Therefore your job title has no bearing in this communication. As far as I am concerned, you are merely the District Manager of a multi-national foreign corporation. You have as much clout in the real world as the “Most Reverend District Manager” of a Bay Area Starbucks.

However, if you insist that your job title somehow gives you a “special” voice to the voters of San Francisco, I trust that you will equally acknowledge my ecumenical status as a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc., because in your words, "Tolerance, respect and trust are always two-way streets…” If you prefer that I acknowledge you by the terms “Archbishop” or “Most Reverend” in further communications, I trust you will refer to me thereafter by my title as “Sister”. (In fact, I have held my title in San Francisco since 1991, and your job transfer only occurred a few years ago, so if ecumenical titles mean anything in the local political arena, I would, in a sense, outrank you.)

My point, though, is that spiritual beliefs have no place in politics, particularly if they come directly from the pulpit. If you felt obliged to address a political issue you felt strongly about, you have the right to speak out as “George”, but it is inappropriate in your vocation to get involved in politics “on company time”. You need to learn that there are things you can and can’t do while on the company time clock or wearing your work uniform. If your primary allegiance is to a European foreign nation / corporate headquarters rather than the laws of the United States of America, then your status as pubic figure is questionable, if not treasonous.

If you or other supporters of Proposition 8 are insistent that connotation of words like “marriage” and “domestic partnerships” are separate but equal, then you should have no problem with the media or the public making no distinction between terms like “Catholic Church” and “Catholic Corporation”. The organization with whom you are employed is in the business of collecting money and providing services, not unlike other non-profit corporations. It’s that special connotation of words like “church” that put organizations like yours in a special category. Wouldn’t it be sad if the playing field between your employer and other competing non-profit corporations were suddenly level?

Is that what you fear by allowing everyone the same marriage rights? Do child bearing heterosexuals deserve special rights just like churches deserve special rights over non-profit corporations that provide the same services? Isn’t that a bit arrogant?

I strongly disagree with the following statement for several reasons, “The churches that worked in favor of Proposition 8 did so because of their belief that the traditional understanding and definition of marriage is in need of defense and support, and not in need of being re-designed or re-configured.”

1. Churches should not be involved in secular political issues. As written, Proposition 8 made no mention of churches or religion.
2. To what era of civilization does the term “traditional marriage” refer? Fifty years ago? One hundred years ago? Two thousand years ago? My grandmother had a “traditional marriage” in the early 1900’s. She was considered the “property” of her husband and therefore it was unnecessary for her to vote. If that fits your definition of a traditional marriage, then half the votes in favor of Proposition 8 should be disqualified because they were cast by traditionally married women. I’d love to hear you defend that notion of traditional marriage in today’s world.
3. The California Supreme Court defined civil marriage in 2008. A preemptive attack on the status quo orchestrated by you was an attempt to have the established law “re-designed or re-configured”.
4. To date, there not a single couple in a “traditional” marriage has stepped forward to state that the sanctity of their marriage has been affected by the 18,000 same sex weddings that occurred in California. Please provide your list of Divorce Decrees that list “Sanctity of our marriage was destroyed by homosexuals” as the reason for their divorce.

One point to which we do agree is, as you wrote, “We need to stop hurling names like 'bigot' and 'pervert' at each other. And we need to stop it now.” If you would have kept your nose out of other people’s business and put that statement out three months ago, you wouldn’t be the focus of protests. Oh, you poor, poor multi-billion dollar corporate hack! You’ve been so singled out and discriminated against! I feel your pain, right down to Joe Ratzinger’s Prada shoes! You were the one who went out of his way to kick this battle into high gear, now you’re going to have to deal with it.

I also agree with your statement, “We need to stop talking as if we are experts on the real motives of people with whom we have never even spoken.” As an unmarried celibate man who has made the choice to live a decidedly alternative lifestyle, I wholehearted agree that you are no expert in the area of relationships, yet alone domestic partnerships or marriage. Again, you need to keep your nose out of other people’s business, especially during work hours.

On the same note, have you actually spoken with members of the gay community other than sycophants who still buy into the fear and shame your corporation promotes? It’s doubtful you have, so I am taking this opportunity to invite you to meet with me and my other Sisters to help you un-do the damage you created.

If it’s possible to discuss this secular political issue in a way that is 100% secular, I can guarantee we would answer your question “What is the way forward for all of us together?” If you agree to meet with us as “George”, a San Francisco voter, we would respect your distaste for our organization and meet in our secular personae as well, because as you say, “…respect and trust often do not include agreement, or even approval…”

You ask, “What is to be done?” Here are my suggestions.

1. Admit you overstepped your bounds getting involved in secular politics.
2. Admit that your preemptive strike to enlist carpetbaggers from Utah was inappropriate.
3. Admit that the Proposition 8 campaign was not about religion, children, or schools. Admit that your support for Proposition 8 was based solely on your own personal distaste for what homosexual Californians do in the privacy of their bedrooms. You have a right to say it, what are you afraid of?
4. Join the 21st century. Things change. What happened to all those Catholics who ate meat the Friday before Vatican 2?

Frankly Mr. Niederauer, I am not holding my breath for a face-to-face meeting or even a written response, but you should be aware you have lost a lot of respect with voters in San Francisco, many of who are customers of the Catholic Corporation.

Prop 8 - The Musical

Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman (whose boycott lead to the resignation of Sacramento's California Musical Theatre creative director Scott Eckern following his donation to Prop 8) wrote and conceived this hysterical short piece (presented with a wink and a nod by the 'Sacramento Community College Players'), which was directed and staged by Hairspray director and choreographer Adam Shankman and features plenty of folks you will recognize.

Harvey Milk's Last Boyfriend
