Ted Haggard - Gay For Pay Pornstars And The Kinsey Scale
Last week Tyra Banks had gay for pay porn stars Kurt Wild and Aaron James on her show. Besides being a not-so-subtle PR opportunity for their careers (as is every appearance on talk shows), Tyra insisted that should either choose to be gay or straight, period. This week, Ted Haggard was allowed to come out of exile to promote his HBO documentary, "The Trials of Ted Haggard". His first stop was a visit to Oprah, who expressed the same discomfort with vague labels.
I believe the gay for pay boys and the Ted Haggards are telling the truth that their sexual attraction falls somewhere in between the safe labels of gay / straight. Kinsey proposed that notion 50 years ago with the Kinsey Scale. With 1 being 100% straight, and 6 being 100% gay, there is a vast gap in between that some people fall into. Ted Haggard considers himself "heterosexual with issues". That, to me, would seem like a Kinsey 2 or 3.
Kurt Wild and Aaron James may also be in the Kinsey range of 2 or 3, but there's also the factor of big money being dangled in front of them. They're not apologetic or ashamed, nor are they abused or seduced. They have no problem working in gay porn individually, but it's other people's prejudices that cause the problems, especially in the case of Kurt Wild who got fired from his job. When he applied for a job at Subway Sandwiches, he told them in the interview that he did adult modeling and they had no problem with it. It wasn't until an uptight customer complained that the company was forced to fire him.
Ted Haggard could have continued preaching as a repentant sinner (like Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker) but it was the reaction of the church's board of directors that exiled him. Offering him a year's severance pay on the condition that he move out of Colorado and stay out of preaching and the media, he had no other choice. The church couldn't handle his problem. The press release stating "Ted Haggard emerged from 3 weeks of therapy 100% cured" came from the church, not from Ted. He still admits same sex attractions. As he said in the documentary, "The church is a business and a gay (or even slightly gay, ed) Ted Haggard is bad for business."
So what have we learned?
-Churches are businesses.
-Not everyone is completely gay or completely straight.
-Both the gay for pay pornstars and the defrocked preacher no longer have gay-panic, and are less homophobic.
-Kurt Wild is cute as a button.
-Aaron James has a fine looking ass.

Next Door To Historic Site? Grateful Dead Acid Test Jan. 29, 1966
I live next door to a printing shop that just moved last week. I did a search of "363 6th Street, San Francisco" to see if there were any plans for a giant high rise or a toxic waste dump moving in next door.
What I found was possibly a historic connection. On January 29, 1966, exactly 43 years ago today, the Grateful Dead performed a concert at that location! Whether it's the same building or not, I don't know. (I think the venue may have been called Sound City at the time.) There was a bootleg recording made of the event, and probably an album printed with these cuts listed:

For many years, the Grateful Dead allowed fans to record and distribute recordings of their concerts, as long as the "tapers" promised to not do it for profit. In this age of fierce copyright enforcement, it's interesting to note that despite the amount of "stolen" material that was given away among fans, the Grateful Dead still made tons of money, and still do to this day. When Jerry Garcia died in 1995, the band decided to break up, but remaining members still get together to perform under different monikers. Dead Heads are the most die-hard fans in rock and roll, maybe even more so than Elvis fans.

Newly Discovered Footage - "Bret Mycles Unseen"
N. Hollywood, CA—Jet Set Men this week released Bret Mycles: Unseen, a DVD featuring never-before-seen footage of Superstar Mycles that was recently found buried deeply in the Studio’s tape vault.

According to Jet Set Studio Chief Chris Steele, who discovered the footage while doing a routine inventory of the vault, the lost video is remarkable not only because it has never been seen before in public, but also because it contains the only known footage of Mycles giving head to two of the three guys he was featured with in a scene from Jet Set’s Prime Cuts 6. (It is not known why the footage was cut from the scene at the time Prime Cuts 6 was released several years ago.)
In addition, the DVD features all of Mycles work for Jet Set, some seven different scenes, including three taught, sexually charged wrestling matches filmed with Can-Am Productions. Each of these scenes has been re-edited and digitally re-mastered from the original source footage, with complete color correction, and the addition of previously unused footage, all of it matched with more modern pacing and contemporary music.
According to Chris Steele, this painstaking process yielded a far superior collection of the Superstar’s work: “Brett Mycles was one of the biggest stars in porn, so he deserves a definitive, technically perfect collection of his work. And Unseen is definitely it.”
Added the John Tegan, Jet Set’s Marketing Director: “Anyone who is a Brett Mycles fan has to get his hands on Unseen. Shot after shot, you will marvel all over again at the physical perfection that was Brett Mycles.”
Included on the DVD is a candid, and at times poignant, behind the scenes interview with the nervous would-be star as he prepares to do his first scene in front of the camera. Also included is a photo array of Brett Mycles’ best stills from his work for Jet Set Men, which are a “dream come true” for any Brett Mycles connoisseur to see in a large screen, high resolution digital format, according to Steele.

Polar Bear Weekend 2009
I came back from Polar Bear Weekend at the Russian River with sore nipples. That statement alone should tell you that I had a good time.
The rooms at all the lost resorts were sold out, but it seemed like a small crowd at first. Many of them must have spent the first night in their rooms, no doubt having sex. More Behind The Scenes Photos from Raging Stallion's Inkstorm 2
As a follow-up to yesterday's blog entry, I added a gallery of still photographs I shot from the set of Raging Stallion's fetishy Dadaist inspired "Inkstorm 2". San Francisco Archdiocese Trying to Avoid Taxes
From SFGate.com: San Francisco will try to collect up to $15 million in taxes from the Archdiocese of San Francisco, which is refusing to pay certain taxes on properties the church is transferring from one Catholic nonprofit organization to another.
That tax bill would be the second largest of its kind in San Francisco history. But the archdiocese has appealed the charge, saying the church should be exempt from property transfer taxes for a variety of reasons - primarily because the properties are being moved among groups that all are a part of the same overarching organization: the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
The written appeal, which will be heard before a review board in the coming weeks, suggests that the assessor's office is unfairly targeting the archdiocese by applying taxes to property transfers that have been tax-free for other religious nonprofit groups.
"The city has applied the law in an uneven fashion (e.g. We are aware of non-Archdiocesan, non-Catholic charities which have transferred property to other charities and no transfer tax has been levied)," wrote Jack Hammel, legal counsel for the archdiocese, in an e-mail to the assessor's office.
San Francisco Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting said the tax is fair and equitable. He said his office spent months investigating the archdiocese's case and considering all of the reasons the church might be exempt from the tax.
"Because we knew the accusations (of unfair treatment) could be out there, we worked to look at every single document so we could totally and completely understand their argument," Ting said. "We looked at all the various exemptions that could have been applied, and we felt that none of them were applicable in this case. That meant it was our determination that this was a taxable event."

Behind The Scenes - Inkstorm 2 by Raging Stallion
A couple months ago I ran into Jake Deckard at the gym. He gave me a big bear hug (yum!) and we chatted a few minutes. He asked me if I had any old television sets he could use for a Raging Stallion shoot. Well, come to find out, I have THE vintage televsion set - a 1958 Philco Predicta. It's one of those very rare collectible sets that look like a TV tube sitting on a pedestal.
The shoot finally materialized over this past weekend. Jake picked up the TV on Friday night and invited me to the set to watch the filming. The movie is going to be "Inkstorm 2", a fetish movie featuring guys who are heavily tattooed. And the tattoos are not the only fetish, it gets pretty kinky.
As soon as Jake mentioned that he wanted to create a movie inspired by Joel Peter Witkin, I was intrigued. (If you never heard of Joel Peter Witkin, he was known for creating frighteningly ghoulish photographic tableaux using real cadavers. Look him up!)
I showed up Saturday and the scene was already in progress. One guy was sitting naked with electrodes connected to his bald head as he sat staring blankly into the Philco. Another guy was strapped to a medical table with his mouth propped open while a third guy wearing goggles and breathing filter abused him.
First bit of action I saw was a very long, extended session of smacking the guy's balls. Jake was getting majorly turned on by this, and eventually helped with the abuse, too.
Then they covered the guy's dick and balls with a thick layer of melted candle wax. Next, as you can see in the video, they rigged a way to cover his eyes with a paper mask to pour hot candle wax over his face. Finally, the mask was removed, and the mummified cock was smashed open with more cock and ball torture.
This was to be the final scene of "Inkstorm 2", and goodness knows what other atrocities occurred in the earlier scenes! All I know is it will involve Logan McCree. Say no more - I'm there.
A lot of us grew up as "weird kids" who liked monster movies, gladiators getting tortured, and evil mad scientists. In a sense, sex is play, and the weird stuff we fantasized about from old movies and imitated as kids we can now fulfill as adults. Free Video Trailer from Buckshot's "Boy Country"
I've noticed a trend with the bigger gay porn studios moving toward being everything to everyone. I don't know who was first, but studios that have always specialized in one type of model are now expanding into other niches. Falcon, which has always been known for the clean-cut college guys, has re-launched it's Mustang and Massive lines with gruffer, more masculine hairy guys. Matthew Rush A Free Agent
Falcon Studios has announced that their one and only Lifetime Exclusive model, Matthew Rush, has decided to move on to greener pastures. Matthew Rush first signed an exclusive contract with Falcon in 2000, and along the way made a stunning announcement that he wanted out of the business completely. After a bit of hand-holding and negotiations, they offered him a "Lifetime" contract, and he went on to be one of Falcon's most bankable stars.
Eight or nine years in the gay porn industry is certainly a "lifetime", so Matthew Rush decided he wants to try out some "other options". Falcon's press release states, "We wish Matthew all the best and much continued success, and even though he will officially be shedding his Lifetime Exclusive title we fully expect to be working with him again sometime soon.”

My guess is that after leaving Falcon, we will first see him in a Jet Set or a COLT movie. Chris Steele is currently VP at Jet Set after a stint as head of production at Falcon, and John Rutherford ran Falcon before buying COLT. Either one of those studios would be more likely to hire Matthew Rush than Hot House, Titan or Raging Stallion. But that's just my prediction.

New Years Eve 2008 - 2009
After throwing a big Christmas Day dinner party, I was hesitant to do it all over again for New Year's Eve, but things just fell into place and the next thing I knew, I was throwing another dinner party and hosting the pre-party. A gang showed up, drank the leftover booze and ate the leftover food on the premise we were going out. Eventually we did go out and painted the town LAVENDER! We hit a couple bars and finally landed at The Stud. It was a beautiful night, and since everything is in walking distance, it was great to just stroll the neighborhood, making little stops along the way. What a relief to not have to worry about driving drunk, parking or trying to find a cab.
I bought a beautiful new black pin striped suit (at Thrift Town for $30, minus the 30% discount) and I was determined to wear it on New Years. By the time I added the hat, fur coat, Versace shades and scarf, I looked more like a Russian pimp.
Initially, I just wanted to go directly to The Stud's pajama party and wear something skimpy and sexy. But as more people got involved with suggestions of places to go, I needed to be versatile, so I went for the suit. Watch the video and tell me if my outfit was "too much" by adding a comment below.
After the bars closed and the after-hours parties started to wind down, we went back to my house to continue the revelry.
