Vacation In Oak Land!
This video is full of inside jokes for Bay Area residents only, but I can appreciate it as a recent escapee from Oakland.
There was a time when I had high hopes for Oakland as San Francisco's overflow neighborhood, but in 2006 I had a premonition to get the hell out of there. I'm glad I did.
I bought a house in a really tough neighborhood in East Oakland in 2000 for $181,000. There were 17 bids on that house. I sold it in the summer of 2006 for $470,000, and the buyers defaulted about a year later and it sat vacant. The most recent data shows it sold in April 2009 for $97,363. Ouch.
So now it's time for you San Francisco hipsters to take your skinny jeans to vacation over the bridge in sunny Oak Land!
