Lazy Bear 2004 Photos

I really had an incredible time at Lazy Bear Weekend, and everyone agreed it was the best one yet! For the past few weeks I've been really stressed out with normal day-to-day duties of running LavenderLounge.com, moving the server for ReelGuys.org, and launching GaySexBlog.org. But to add to my already overtaxed, 14 hour a day schedule, I decided to create a theme camp!

I was surprised when no one else at Lazy Bear had ever done a Winnie The Pooh theme camp, but it was perfect match for the event. First of all, Pooh Bear is about as fey a cartoon character as you can find. Plus, he's really kind of a slacker and obsessed by food. With all that plus the all too easy adolescent pooh-pooh references, you couldn't go wrong for a theme.

However, in anouncing the theme to my campmates via email, Sister Lily initially thought Pooh Bear Camp would be a total "boner kill". "Phooey on Poohey!", she wrote. I continued with my plans undeterred and she lived to eat her words! The giant penises and Pooh decor were a big hit, resulting in lots of comments, drop in visitors, and tons of photos ops.

I was really nervous about making sure the construction went smoothly, but in my haste, I got 3/4th of the way up to Guerneville before I realized I forgot my LavenderLounge.com banners! The payoff for building PoohLand was to promote my business, so there was nothing else to do but turn around and start over. After all the acumulated stress and late arrival, I treated myself and Cedar to dinner at Cape Fear in Duncan Mills (I highly recommend it!) along with Sister Candy, who actually knew how to find the place.

The rest of the weekend was all about taking pictures and chillin'. It was the first time we ever really got to spend a good amount of time at our campsite. We met our neighbors, Mark, Scott, Rodney, Dean and Silvio, who turned out to be the best neighbors you could have! Imagine having coffee delivered to your tent every day! They also hosted a lovely campfire at their own site most every night, far from the maddening crowds.

Saturday was spent around the pool at Triple R, Sunday was pooling at Fife's, but in between, one of the highlights was the impromptu "flash mob" they dubbed "LADY Bear Parade". It was instigated by the Bears Gone Wild crewe, and, I'm sure Ggreg Taylor put in his two cents, too. Picture chubby butch bears in drag marching around the campground chanting, "fuzzy butts, fuzzy butts!" and insisting everyone in their way show their rear end. Enchanting.

On Saturday, some of the campers down the row pulled out a kiddy Slip N Slide. Those toys are definitely meant for kids, and not burly men hovering around 40. A guy named Chip had to learn the hard way about growing old gracefully, and broke his arm trying to act like a 10 year old, as you can see in the photo taken right at the moment of impact. Ouch.

At the same time that I was taking pictures of the Slip N Slide tragedy, Cedar was being taken to the Guerneville Fire Dept. for first aid after taking a fall in the mosh pit watching Pepperspray perform an hour earlier. True to every drag queen's nightmare, he had to seek medical attention while dressed in genderfuck drag - ripped up blue velvet dress tied together with a rope. The Fire Department only had minimal emergency care, so they put him in a splint, and suggested he go to a hospital in Sebastapol; after having his lovely frock cut off him, though. At least he got to hang out with his new buddy, Chip as they commisserated.

Barring those disasters, I was having a ball with my new camera and flash! I ended up with 909 photos that are available in the VIP Room at LavenderLounge.com (look for the Muscle Bear Cub galleries). I divided them into poolside shots, the Lady Bear Parade, and Slip N Slide. (Shots of Pepperspray's performance will be coming soon, and in the free section!)

What was the best part of the weekend? Getting laid. Twice.
