An American In Prague

My friend in New Orleans, Librarian Jim, sent me this movie review that I thought I would share. Even though the movie is 6 or 7 years old, it is a classic, as are many titles from Bel Ami.

Don't get too jealous, but I hung out and partied with "the American", Chance, in Las Vegas a couple years ago. As I recall, he only did a couple movies then retired from modeling. When I met him at that convention and he was working behind the scenes at a studio or porn site, I can't remember. I have some pictures of he and I around somewhere...

As usual, I enjoyed the DVD extras from that movie more than the movie itself. The behind the scenes footage has even more "realness", which both Librarian Jim and I both agree is the strong point of the movie.

Just because I'm a pathetic tool of The Market, I rented "An American In Prague" at our local fag porn store. Why did I rent it? Because of all the hype I read about it's friggin' being an awaaaaaard winnaaaaah, and because it's got pretty YOOTS in it! Especially the American guy that goes by the name of "Chance." I was really VERY interested in watching him fuck . . .

So okay -- I gotta say it's definitely the best porn flick I've ever seen. I mean, it's REALLY damn good! This George Duroy guy has finally shown that someone can make a porn story that's not really lame or contrived. Two guys swingin' around Prague, amidst lots of very pretty travelogue-type shots of the city -- so simple! A lot of what made it pleasant to watch was that the principal two, Johan Paulik and Chance, seemed to actually enjoy hanging out together. I mean, sure, there were moments when you could tell the guys were being coached ("Okay! Tumble against him like he said something funny and you're cracking up! Good! Now whisper something sexy into his ear!"), but their dialog was natural enough for us to suspend our disbelief comfortably. No aspect of their non-sexual performances came off as stiff or hammy. Of course, it didn't hurt that they were a couple of cute, boisterous young guys. Occasional awkward moments or fits of clowning around looked natural to them. I wouldn't be as interested in seeing two gigantic bear guys lumbering around Prague, playfully hitting each other, so there ya go . . .

But the sexual playing-around and actual sex scene between the two guys was really fun to watch. Again, they looked like they were really having a good time together. The actual fucking was nice and varied, too. None of this mechanical pump-pump-pump. They went slowly and tenderly, as well as banged like jackrabbits. They goofed around a lot together in bed, too, which was nice to see for a change.

Another thing that came off as very interesting was their attentions occasionally being caught
by the site of their own reflections in the mirror hanging over the headboard of the bed. They'd
be slurping and sucking away, when all of a sudden one would seem to sort of get all caught up
in the sight of himself at work. Very natural! Just like a young'un, that unaffected vanity!

The sexual performance was dynamite! Johan Paulik, at the big finale, thrashes, gasps, and moans like he's being fucked by God Himself. He also manages to look overjoyed through it all. One thing those Czech boys got, it's the ability to smile, smile, smile. Chance, meanwhile, has a big thing going with that face of his. This guy's a star! He really puts that mug to work during his solo performance on the second disc of the set. His "get over here right now" expression is intense and personal. He's got that steamy, feline look that's challenging and inviting all at once. Nothing at all like the blank, distracted look a lot of porn actors have when they gaze into the camera . . .

So even if you find yourself rolling your eyes at the prospect of watching a couple of pretty
yoots boink, take some time to scan through it anyway. I think you'll agree that it's lighting,
camera work, and even its music all complement the scenes very well. It's not just a tight piece
of work, it's downright beautiful. I've got to say, "An American In Prague" is the first porn film I've ever watched that didn't bore me at any point, and actually left me feeling upbeat! For me, that's a brand new experience.
