Memorial Service For MSR's Tony Alizzi
I only met Tony Alizzi a few times but he seemed like a nice guy, and someone I would like to have worked more closely with. Sadly, it never came to pass. He leaves behind an impressive body of work with MSR Studios. Here's more about Tony Alizzi from J.C. Adams who served as MSR's publicist and production manager, with details about the memorial service after the jump.
It is my sad duty to confirm the death of a well-known member of the gay adult entertainment community. Director Tony Alizzi of MSR Videos died of an apparent heart attack on Sunday or Monday, January 2nd or 3rd. The coroner's report is pending. Tony Alizzi was 42 years old.
Tony Alizzi founded MSR Videos in 1999 after leaving an acclaimed career as a set decorator for television. He earned five Emmy nominations (two Primetime nods, three Daytime) for his work, and continued to lend his set design and decorating expertise to fundraising efforts for such organizations as Broadway Cares and Divas! Simply Singing.
MSR's first videos were PROWL and its sequel, PROWL 2, which set a template Mr. Alizzi would essentially follow for the next five years: rough and coercive sex, strictly defined top and bottom roles, spitting and sweat. DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL took MSR to the next level with a raft of award nominations, including a now-legendary Best Oral Scene winner between Thom Barron and Tuck Johnson. PROWL 3: GENUINE LEATHER, with a famous shot of a leather-capped Colton Ford on the box cover, picked up several Best Leather Video citations.
Mr. Alizzi also formed a partnership with legendary director Joe Gage, who went on to direct CLOSED SET: THE NEW CREW and the JOE GAGE SEX FILES series, among other titles. WHITE TRASH took the GAYVN awards by storm with a stunning nine trophies including Best Sex Comedy, Supporting Actor (Rod Barry) and awards for editing, music, screenplay and packaging.
Recent hits include SEX PIGS, which was released in a black box with no pictures on the front or sides, ROUGH TRADE, STUDS 'N PUPS and SHOOTERS (which I co-directed). At the time of his death, Mr. Alizzi was finishing the fourth installment in the PROWL franchise.
