Halloween in San Francisco 2005

It was a really big Halloween for me this year. If you don't know, Halloween in San Francisco, or more specifically, The Castro, is now almost a week long. Since Halloween fell on a Monday this year, the party really started on Friday, and Castro Street was closed down each night to allow for the bars to spill out onto the streets.

I got there on Saturday and started shooting pictures of the incredible costumes and just having fun and running into my friends.

On Sunday, we started the day hitting the Wonders of Cannibis festival at Golden Gate Park. The Sisters were asked to help promote a new Medical Marijuana dispensory called The Sanctuary. Coincidentally, it was started by two former porn stars, Jacob Scott and Dick Wolf. They are running it as a non-profit with lofty plans to use money raised from medical pot to someday create some sort of gay retirement home.

One of the guest speakers was California Assemblyman Mark Leno who gave an inspiring speech not only about Medical Marijuana, but also his plans to lift the ban on industrial hemp production in California. There's a lot of detail to that story, but it could make a big shift in California's agricultural economy. Afterward, I told Mark Leno he should visit Sancutary's booth as an example of a "good" pot club.

From there, we went back to Retardo's for a nosh and to get ready for a TV interview. I put on my Sister drag and talked about The Sisters to my old friend Wenda Watch. She has a new show premiering soon on the Q Television network. (Wenda Watch was one of the stars of my old gay television show back in the 90's. It's good to see that she's on her way to becoming a star!) The TV crew then followed us to the Hooker's Ball, an annual event started a million years ago by prostitute activist Margo St. James. It's a benefit for St. James Infirmary, a health center for sex workers.

Then the night got really smutty! We all showed up at a Raging Stallion Halloween party called "Thick". The headliner was one of my current favorite gay porn stars, Manuel Torres. He left early, but hung around the front bar with his dick out the whole time. It took me a minute, but then I looked down and saw, "Oh, he has his dick out. Isn't that nice!" I was scheduled to judge a "Halloween Underwear Contest", but the club owner gave the promoter, Sean Masters, the green light to let the party get as risque as he wanted. When it came time for the "contest" it turned out no one wore any underwear! That meant that we gave prizes if you just showed your dick on stage! From there is got even more crazy with butt-slapping, tea bagging, and cock sucking. The party lasted till 3 am with reports of a former candidate for San Francisco Supervisor naked on the stairway and full on sex going on upstairs!

All that happened BEFORE Halloween! The day of Halloween, I was focused on getting my drag together and preparing to meet Wenda for a live broadcast from the Castro. I only got to be on the air for a minute at the very beginning, and I kinda choked. I think I was a little "too" prepared and had a million things running through my head to talk about, and just blurted out a jumble of nonsense. Q Television also had live hosts in NY and LA, plus Sandra Bernhard was hosting from the studio. Needless to say, with all that going on, there wasn't much time for me to push my multiple agendas.

I can't begin to describe all the fabulous costumes I saw over the weekend, nor the scandalous "lack of" costumes, but I took about 500 incredible photos.
