Joey Russo: "Making Porn" and Quitting Porn
I've got a bit of a "scoop" today, along with a promotional tidbit from gay porn star Joey Russo:
Just wanted to plug the latest production of "Making Porn" currently running in Las Vegas through the 18th of December. Matthew Rush has left the show and I'm playing the role I performed Off-Broadway BEFORE I started working in Adult Videos (Yes, I CAN actully act)! Also, making the official announcement (you're hearing it first) I'm retiring from the industry! First of all, I want to say how proud I am of playright Ronnie Larsen's success. I met him 10 years ago when he was really struggling here in San Francisco. One time, he bombarded me with questions about how to get funding to produce a successful indie film. I finally had to say, "Whoa, slow down. If I knew the answer to that, I'd be doing it myself!" Ronnie Larsen's plays have been running consistantly all over the country ever since. He's soon to be in the same ranks as gay playrights like Harvey Fierstein and Steven Sondheim.
As for Joey Russo, I don't know how he slipped under the radar with me, especially since he's from San Francisco. I'm glad I did a little research on him, because as it turns out, he has left a nice legacy in gay porn.
HIs picture on the cover of Titan's "Back To Barstow" certainly made me stop and take notice. I've stared deeply into that cover many times! (sound of lips smacking) It's a Joe Gage film, too, and definitely worth a watch.
I think my most memorable image of Joey Russo is from MSR's "Homo Erectus", where he played the long-haired "missing link" / "Wild Man of Borneo" character. A fun concept for gay fans of Indiana Jones movies, and I know there are more than a few out there...
I was already looking forward to the release of Titan's "Cirque Noir", not just for the freak-factor, but because a friend who isn't usually associated with porn got hired to play Rimjob The Clown. But now that I know Joey Russo is in the same scene, I am even more anxious.
In addition to the porn clown business in "Cirque Noir", it gets even freakier, as they say in the description, "And gasp when you see Buck Angel, the man with a pussy, double fist Logan Steele and Tober Brandt! Cirque Noir is one sexy, scary, sensationally twisted fuck of a movie. Be afraid, be very, very afraid!"
